Admission to the IMPRS-SHH is granted after a call for applications or on recommendation. In general, doctoral researchers receive three-year funding contracts (Max Planck Förderverträge) with the Max Planck Society or contracts for young researchers (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter) with the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, or occasionally fellowships.

IMPRS-SHH doctoral researchers do not have to pay tuition fees for participating in this PhD program.

Applying for admission as a doctoral candidate with one of the “Fakultäten” of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (FSU) is free of charge.

The (optional) enrolment at FSU requires the payment of semester fees and includes various advantages.
